Why do you think alot of TV shows have an overweight husband and skinny wife?
Ok I know that sounded weird but I’ve noticed it alot.
Family Guy = Lois and Peter
Simpsons = Marge and Homer
Family Matters = Carl and Hariette
George Lopez = George and Angie
King of Queens = Doug and Carrie
I think it’s cute but why is it so common? Maybe there’s a hidden message or something?

The hidden message pretty much is. “Hey, fat man you can have a skinny, hot wife too but fat ladies… not so much with a skinny hot man.”

People accept more, the bumbling, agnostic, troubled and weird husband than the do a wife who was this way. If it were the other way around more people would find it offensive. People tend to see that the man can protect himself and therefore they find it easier to watch a man behaving ‘a little bit different’.

women are obsessed about losing all that pregnancy weight and most men are just too lazy and they have beer bellies.

Because fat men are suppose to be funny I guess. I thought Roseanne was funny though….but I think the thought of a hot wife/mom is what brings the ratings.

Maybe there is a stereotype that fat guys are funny, but people might be less inclined to watch a fat wife & skinny husband. But I guess a fat wife & fat husband works, b/c the TV show Roseanne did quite well when it was on the air.
